Parents hang on to hope 25 years after daughter’s unsolved murder

Jenny Lin

Jenny Lin was just 14 when she was found stabbed to death by an intruder in her home 25 years ago in Castro Valley, east of San Francisco. Her killing remains unsolved.

Friday night, dozens of people walked in a solemn candlelight vigil to mark the 25th anniversary of that fateful day.

Her parents have refused to let memories of their daughter fade and have held this vigil every year since her death.

“Considering new DNA technology it could be tomorrow we get a hit,” Mei-Lian Lin, Jenny’s mother, said to ABC7 News.

Police confirm that’s a real possibility.

“We’re looking at mitochondrial DNA, and looking at extracting DNA from items we have an evidence running them through new procedures,” said Alameda County Sheriff Gregory Ahern.

The family plans to hold this vigil until Jenny’s killer is brought to justice.

“I made a promise to my daughter at her gravesite that we will not rest until this case is solved,” her father John said to NBC Bay Area.
