People take their sports seriously, sometimes too seriously.
Toronto Raptors superfan Nav Bhatia sits behind the basket and can be seen frantically waving his towel cheering on his favorite team. Since 1995, he has never, not once, missed a home game, according to FTW.
During the recently concluded Eastern Conference Finals between the Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks, a Bucks fan tweeted a racist post directed at Bhatia.
As you can see, a member of Canada’s Parliament, Raj Grewal, immediately flagged the post.
Bucks fans too condemned the racist tweet.
The Bucks fans reached out to Bhatia on social media and by phone to personally apologize. It was a gesture the super fan appreciated.
“I felt really sorry, and I felt like he hadn’t seen the world at all,” Bhatia said to the HuffPost. “He was a very simple guy who had never been out of Milwaukee.”
Journalist Muhammad Lila recently told Bhatia’s incredible story.
He came to Canada as an immigrant in the 80s. He couldn’t get a job as an engineer, so took a job selling cars at a dealership. He quickly set a record for cars sold and ended up purchasing the dealership. Today he routinely buys tickets for youth to attend Raptors game and is considered the Raptors number 1 fan, even a bigger superfan than the more famous Drake.
Even Steve Kerr, coach of the Golden State Warriors, who are about to meet the Raptors in the NBA Finals, has gotten on the Bhatia bandwagon.
