How the Asian American vote will be crucial in 2020

Vote multilingual

Asian Americans are the fastest growing ethnic group in the state of Nevada. According to The Asian Journal, there are 330,000 Asian American in Nevada with 163,000 Filipino Americans- making them the largest AAPI group in the Silver State.

The Asian American population is also the fastest growing in other states like Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin. Additionally, because the Asian American population is so diverse, it is difficult to make any assumptions on voting patterns. Just a few of the specific ethnic groups include Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Indian American and Pakistani American.

According to an NBC news article, Trump did not win the Asian American vote in the 2016 election. However, the diversity of Asian American groups validate the difficulty in approval ratings because while 64 percent of Vietnamese Americans approve of Trump only 14 percent of Japanese Americans approve of him, according to an October 2018 AAPIVote poll.

The population of Asian Americans in the year 2065 is expected to rise to 14 percent. Because this minority group is so rapidly growing, their voice will be even more crucial during the 2020 election. Understanding the voting habits of each individual ethnic group can serve as a key component to garnering votes.
