Asian Americans are now the largest racial group in Alameda County, a community of 1.5 million people east of San Francisco. Its largest city is Oakland.

The county becomes the second in the Bay Area where Asian Americans make up the biggest ethnic demographic. Santa Clara County, best known for Silicon Valley, became the first in 2014.

The Mercury News reports the population of Asian Americans in Alameda County has grown 32 percent since 2010.

Asian Americans make up 31.1% of the county with a population of 518,400-just 400 more than Whites. Asians are the second largest group in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.

According to the Los Angeles Times, there are 6.9 million Asians in the state. Los Angeles County is the home of the largest group of Asians with 1.5 million.

The population of Asians also surpassed the population of Whites in San Gabriel Valley, according to a study released in 2018 by Asian Americans Advancing Justice.
