Couple sues IVF clinic saying baby is not theirs

As Asian American couple from New York is suing an invitro fertilization clinic alleging an IVF mix-up caused the mother to give birth to someone else’s baby, reports CNN.

The mother gave birth to twins- two non-Asian babies. The mother has been forced to give up the baby to their true genetic parents.

The lawsuit claims the CHA Fertility Clinic of Los Angeles knew of the mix-up, but tried to hide it, according to CBS News. The couple says they still don’t know what happened to the embryos that should have been implanted.

“Have we become reckless and too careless with people’s most important genetic material and their future happiness?” IVF expert Jake Anderson said to CBS.

Also named in the lawsuit are the co-owners of the clinic, Dr. Joshua Berger and Simon Hong.

The couple is only known as Y.Z. and A.P.

RT reports the couple suspected something wasn’t right early on. The mother had requested two female embryos be implanted, but a technician told her she was carrying twin boys.

The clinic dismissed the technician’s findings saying sonograms were not “A definitive test.”

The lawsuit says the couple “may never know what happened to their embryos, as well as whether the currently cryo-preserved embryos are genetically matched to them.”

The clinic had no comment.
