By Rachel Chou
Comedian, actress, author, fashion designer, singer songwriter, activist, icon; Margaret Cho is a household name who you can now listen to as you clean your household. That’s because she’s added podcasting to her long resume. Her standup material has always been mainly autobiographical. However her new podcast, The Margaret Cho, will be less Margaret focused. Instead, she will be interviewing “interesting people you should know and and shining a light on people you should know”, as she told AsAmNews.
The first episode of The Margaret Cho launches this Tuesday, featuring person you know, Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye, and person she thinks you should know, Katie Malia, a writer/dancer/comic. Other guests include Lucas Peterson, Michael Yo, Robin Tran, Kat Von D, Katie Malia, and many more. Cho told AsAmNews she’s excited about what the guests have shared so far. The format of the show will dive deep into the interviewees personal stories. “I love origin stories and personal myths and legends! I think everything needs to be heard.” Cho said.
The Margaret Cho is presented by Earios Podcast Network, a female focused podcast network championing women creators and voices, according to deadline.com. This year they launch 12 shows, other show hosts including Lesley Arfin, Kimmy Gatewood, Aasha Davis, Camilla Blackett, and more. Earios co-founder Priyanka Mattoo told curvemag.com, “We are thrilled to be working with Margaret, who is a model for iconoclastic women everywhere, and also just a deeply kind, funny person. We have been so fortunate she’s joined us on this adventure, and are excited for listeners to experience the warmth and curiosity that infuses every episode of The Margaret Cho!”
Episodes drop every Tuesday, with a total of 36 episodes slated for the first season. Like many celebrity hosted podcasts, Cho’s recording location will be at her house. She told AsAmNews she also hopes to record while traveling internationally on tour for Fresh off the Bloat, her stand up comedy show, the title aptly inspired by a critique from her grandmother, “You look like bloated as if you’ve been found dead in a lake after several days of searching.”
AsAmNews asked Cho what space listeners can imagine when listening to her podcast. “I’m hoping it will sound like my house. Maybe my couch – which may not have a distinct sound other than the sigh of relief when I sit on it.” she said.
You can listen to The Margaret Cho on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Acast.
