Police arrested Chuyen Vo on Wednesday night on suspicion of fatally stabbing a California State University Fullerton employee, reports CNN.

Steven Shek Keung Chan, 57, was found on Monday with multiple stab wounds in his car in a campus parking lot, where he was pronounced dead. Chan had retired in 2017 but returned to do consulting for the university.

“Fullerton police detectives believe based on their investigation that Vo acted alone during the planning and commission of this murder,” said Fullterton Police Department Chief Robert Dunn. “We now know that Vo and Chan were co-workers.”

The motive is currently unknown.

University spokeswoman Ellen Treanor said Vo worked in the same division as Chan but she was uncertain as to how closely they worked together.

“Of all the individuals that I talked to in that division, there didn’t seem to be any concerns at all that anybody would ever hurt Steve at all,” said Treanor. “Not a single person said there were problems. He wasn’t known as a difficult boss. He was known as a very thoughtful man, very by-the book, a man of few words.”

Vo’s Huntington Beach neighbors are stunned at the news.

“He’s wonderful,” said Vo’s neighbor Ila Fitzgerald, according to ABC7 News. “He’s very involved in his church. Some of the things that I’ve heard about him just doesn’t sound like him.”

The suspect caught on surveillance video fled the scene at the time of the crime. Police said they found a backpack at the crime scene that contained an incendiary device, knife, zip ties, and disguise materials. Fullerton Police Department Lt. Jon Radus refused to state how Vo was identified as a suspect, but he did say, “That backpack obviously did play a role in our investigation, a significant role.”
