A first year student at Louisiana State University is getting a rude introduction to student life.
Biology freshman Christy Nguyen attended LSU’s game against the Georgia Southern Eagles. As she and her friends were leaving in the second quarter, a student identified as sophomore Foxworth Vidrine assaulted her with racially charged comments, according to a tweet from Nguyen.
“He repeatedly yelled ‘Get the f*ck out Ching Chongs’ at me and my friends out of nowhere, Ngueyn tweeted.
Nguyen posted several photos of the student and asked for help identifying him. Her tweet has been liked 57,000 times and retweeted nearly 34,000 times so far.
“It was really humiliating; he was yelling, and everyone around was just looking,” Nguyen said. “He even had the satisfaction of seeing us leave,” Nguyen told the LSU Reveille.

One of Nguyen’s friends, Thao Ngo, said no one spoke up on their behalf.
“No one even tried to stop it,” Ngo said. “We were just shocked and had no clue what to do.”

Nguyen and some of her friends have since met with Associate Vice President and Dean of Students Mari Fuentes-Martin. Nguyen says Fuentes-Martin spent more time talking about how the community should react rather than any action that Vidrine might face.
Nguyen said she was told the student’s actions were not threatening and protected by free speech.
“We just didn’t understand that because hate speech and freedom of speech are two different things,” Madaleine Vo said.
The university said any action it takes against Vidrine would be protected by privacy laws.
Fuentes-Martin says LSU is working towards a solution.
