A racist and homophobic joke by comic Dave Chapelle in his new Netflix special is drawing the ire of Joel Kim Booster.
The comedian who will star in the new NBC show Sunnyside called Chapelle’s special Sticks and Stones “kind of sad.”
“I think Chappelle used to have really interesting and prescient things to say about power structures and things like that, and I just don’t think he’s interested in dismantling that anymore,” Booster said to WNYW
In the show, Chapelle makes a joke about transgender people being born into the wrong body and compared this situation to a Chinese person being born in his body.
According to Resonate, Sticks and Stones has a 27 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Although Chapelle was clearly trying to be comedic, many are criticizing him for using divisive language in order to generate humor.
