Kamala Harris launches South Asians for the People

Kamala Harris has launched a new initiative to grow her support among South Asian American voters.

People who go to South Asians for the People are asked to leave their contact information and pledge to support the campaign in various ways.

The child of a mother who immigrated to Madras, India in 1960, Harris’ campaign has yet to gain traction in her own community. Tulsi Gabbard has reportedly raised more campaign funds from the community and Joe Biden leads in the polls among Indian American voters.

Harris announced her new initiative on Facebook by posting a video of her grandmother.

The announcement came one day before last Sunday’s AAPI Presidential Forum which Harris did not attend.

“When I was a young girl visiting my grandparents in India, I’d join my grandfather and his buddies on their morning walk along the beach as they would talk about the importance of fighting for democracy and civil rights. Those walks made me who I am today, and that’s why I’m so proud to launch our South Asians For The People community,” Harris said in her video announcement.
