The first Asian model to be the face of Louis Vuitton died while filming a reality show in China Wednesday, reports the Guardian.
Godfrey Gao, 35, died of cardiac arrest after falling to the ground while running during filming.
Chinese media reported that CPR was performed on the actor and model before he was taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, according to the Vancouver Sun.
“We are very shocked and saddened and even until now find it impossible to accept,” a statement from his management company reads. “Thank you media friends and every fan of Godfrey’s for their concern. His management and team were present and his family were urgently rushed to the location.”
Reaction on social media was swift.
The Sun reports Gao was born in Taiwan to a Taiwanese father and Malaysian mother, but spent his formative years in Vancouver. He has appeared in numerous Taiwanese television dramas and in 2011 signed on to the the face of Louis Vuitton.
He also appeared as Magnus Bane in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones in 2013.
