Exactly one year after being shot to death while making a traffic stop, hundreds gathered to remember Corporal Ronil Singh in the small town of Newman in California.
“To our community, he symbolized a friend, family and most importantly a protector who paid the ultimate price,” said Casey Graham, a city council member in Newman and a police officer in nearby Modesto, according to the Modesto Bee.
Singh’s brother broke out in tears as he addressed the crowd.
“My brother, we miss you. We love you so much,” Reggie Singh said.
Even before the official remembrance in the town’s square began, KCRA reports people exchanged hugs and embraces.
The marquis at the town’s theater declared “Ronil Singh-forever remembered.
His widow Anamika and now 17-month old son, Arnav, also joined the remembrance along with Ronil’s now retired police dog, Sam.
Paulo Mendoza remains jailed awaiting his preliminary hearing scheduled to start on March 10.
