Charges Dropped Against Suspect in Beating of Elderly Asian Man Collecting Cans

Dwayne Grayson is suspected of recording and harassing elderly man.

Instead of being charged with elder abuse and battery, suspect Dwayne Grayson will enter a “restorative justice” program for the beating and racial harassment of an elderly Asian man collecting cans in San Francisco.

The victim himself supported this decision, which will include “reconciliation” amongst the involved parties as well as rehab for the perpetrator. Grayson is also suspected of breaching probation for a previous theft.

According to police, 20-year-old Grayson was responsible for recording and sharing the video of 56-year-old Jonathan Amerson assaulting the victim with a metal rod. Police believe Amerson robbed the same victim of recyclables two months prior.

In the video, Grayson encourages the harassment and says, “go get your f— cans” and “I hate Asian n—.”
