Asian American groups report closures and cancellations due to coronavirus

The Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles announced it will be closing March 14 to 31 due to the coronavirus, reported Rafu Shimpo.

“The health and safety of our community is of paramount importance, as is our obligation as a public institution to do our part to support efforts to inhibit the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” said the museum’s president and CEO, Ann Burroughs. “For these same reasons, we will also cancel all public programs, rentals, and tours at the museum through the end of April. We will continue to monitor public health guidelines and reassess as the situation unfolds.”

In addition, Rafu Shimpo also reported the Venice Japanese Community Center in Southern California will be closed through April 14. The closure could be extended, pending further developments in the virus outbreak.

AsAmNews has learned Chinese for Affirmative Action has cancelled its annual gala which had been scheduled for June 4 in San Francisco. The gala is CAA’s biggest fundraiser. It will likely be moved to the fall. CAA is the latest AAPI organization to postpone a fundraiser. Earlier this week, AsAmNews reported the Chinese Historical Society of America delayed its fundraiser that had been scheduled for March 28. It has not yet been rescheduled.
