Anti-Asian sentiment continues to persist throughout the United States amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Now, a Michelin-star Korean restaurant in New York City has been vandalized, Eater reports.
The message “Stop eating dogs” was written with Sharpie across the window of Jeju Noodle Bar in the West Village. A customer who lives nearby the restaurant saw the graffiti and sent it a photo to the owner Douglas Kim via Instagram.
“I’m so sorry to have to relay this message and even more sorry that someone was horrible enough to do that,” the customer said in her Instagram direct message to Kim.
Kim is calling the incident a hate crime. It is just one of many instances of vandalism. A number of Asian restaurants in San Francisco have been vandalized. A restaurant in Seattle also had its windows smashed in. Rep. Judy Chu (D-Cali) said recently that attacks on Asian Americans are at about 100 per day, according to The Hill.
Kim told Eater he did not report the incident to the police because he was not convinced anything would be done.

“How are they going to find that person?” Kim told Eater. “How seriously are they going to take it?”
Instead, he posted a picture of the incident to Jeju’s Instagram in order to make people understand that Asian Americans are being harassed.
Several people reposted the photo and offered supportive comments. Kim said it was good to see that people cared.
