New Bill to allow Americans to sue China for Coronavirus Outbreak

Park in Wuhan, China

Senator Tom Cotton and Representative Dan Crenshaw introduced a legislation on Thursday to permit Americans to sue China in the federal court for COVID-19 damages.

Breitbart reported that the bill will allow Americans to sue China for “death, injury and economic harm caused by the Wuhan virus.”

Dubbed as the Holding the Chinese Communist Party Accountable for Infecting Americans Act of 2020, the bill asserts “covering up the virus and causing it to spread faster or further than it otherwise would have can be considered a tortious act.”

Senator Cotton, an Army veteran said in a statement reported by American Greatness, “By silencing doctors and journalists who tried to warn the world about the coronavirus, the Chinese Communist Party allowed the virus to spread quickly around the globe.”

He added, “Their decision to cover up the virus led to thousands of needless deaths and untold economic harm. It’s only appropriate that we hold the Chinese government accountable for the damage it has caused.”

Crenshaw also declared in a statement delivered by PJ Media that the US needs to hold China accountable for its malicious lies and coverup that “allowed the coronavirus to spread around the world.”

“Simply put: their [Chinese government’s] actions cost American lives and livelihoods. This bill will help ensure China’s actions are not without consequences.”

According to BreitBart, the bill, which is yet to be filed, was modeled after the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JUSTA) which allowed families of victims of 9/11 to sue Saudi Arabia for damages.
