$1 million. That’s how much the non-profit Indiaspora has raised for coronavirus relief efforts.
The campaign at ChaloGivr.org has some heavy hitters behind it. Ambassadors listed on the website include Dr. Vivek Murthy, a former US Surgeon General and a member of the Board of Directors of Feeding America; Indira Nooyi, former chair and CEO of Pepsico and a member of Feeding America’s Food Security Council and Atul Satija, CEO of Give India.
“There was a huge desire in our community to help during this crisis, and we provided an easy way to give. The Indian diaspora stood up and rose to the occasion when the ultimate time of reckoning arrived,” Indiaspora’s Executive Director, Sanjeev Joshipura, said to India New England. “We want to do everything we can to help our country of birth and our country of citizenship. It is not either or, it is US and India.”
Indiaspora launched the campaign on April 10. The money is primarily going to two charities, Feed America and Goonj in India which is dedicated to eradicating poverty in rural India.
Indiaspora describes itself as a nonprofit dedicated to building a stronger community with the help of a powerful network of diaspora leaders.
