Police seek man accused of trying to drag Asian man off train in suspected coronavirus hate crime

Police in New York are asking the public to help identify a man accused of attempting to drag an Asian passenger off a New York subway train early Sunday morning.

“You’re infected China boy, you need to get off the train.” the man is accused of saying, according to the New York Daily News.

The victim successfully thwarted the man’s actions and the suspect ran off, but not before the Asian man recorded video of the man.

The suspect is believed to be in his 30s wearing a black jacket. The number of reported hate crime incidents by Asian Americans to the New York Police department have increased more than four times- from 3 at this time last year to 14.

Late last month, NYPD chief of detectives Rodney Harrison released the video below encouraging Asian Americans to report these crimes. Harrison says so far 10 people have been arrested in these case, but he says he knows so many more incident have gone unreported.
