A man under arrest in New Jersey is accused of twice ramming his car into another belonging to a Muslim woman and spewing Islamphobic rhetoric, reports NewJersey.com.
The charges are being applauded by the Council on American Islamic Relations in New Jersey which called the incident “horrific,” reported Inside NJ.
“Horrific acts of violence like this remind us of the rise in Islamophobia and other forms of bigotry in our nation, and the importance of condemning hatred whenever and wherever we see it. Tolerating this type of evil will only lead to more violence against minority communities. It is the responsibility of government officials and law enforcement to proactively speak out against bigotry, letting the people of New Jersey know that Islamophobia is not welcomed in our state.”
According to police, Michael Anderson, 55, yelled “You’re a terrorist,” “I’m going to kill you,” and “Go back to your country” at a Muslim American mom and her 16-year old son.
Anderson faces two counts of aggravated assault, bias intimidation and terrorist threats.
Morrison is said to have ran away from the scene, but police arrested him later that night at his home.
