Sensing a need to lift the spirit of the Island and the country, more than 30 Miss Hawaiis cooperated in making a virtual six minute video rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and What A Wonderful World, reports Maui Now.
Miss Hawaii from the years 1973 to 2019 joined together for the performance. Each submitted a video of their performances and from that, producers spliced together the medley.
Known as Forever Miss Hawaii, those who participated included Allison Chu, Angela Baraquio Grey, Ashley Layfield, Billie Takaki Lueder, Candes Gentry, Carolyn Sapp Daniels, Cathy Foy, Cheryl Bartlett, Cheryl Toma Sanders, Courtney Glaza Naso, Crystal Montrone, Debbie Nakanelua-Richards, Denby Dung Cabaldon, Erika Kauffman, Jalee Palompo, Jennifer Hera Pimentel, Kanoe Kaumeheiwa Miller, Kanoe Naone, Kanoelani Gibson Nitta, Kathryn Teruya, Kehaulani Christian Takenishi, Lani Stone Kaaa, Lauren Matsumoto, Ligaya Stice, Malika Dudley, Melissa Short Zapin, Nicole Fox, Nikki Kehaulani Holbrook, Penelope Ng Pack, and Skyler Kamaka.
The group included two former Miss Americas, Angela Baraquio Grey in 2001, and Carolyn Sapp Daniels in 1991.
Penelope Ng Pack, Miss Hawaii 2018, organized the video project, according to Hawaii News Now.
“The Miss Hawaii Organization is rooted in community service and it is our hope that by sharing this video, we will be able to lift the spirits of those who watch it,” she said.
The video comes after the recent postponement of this year’s Miss Hawaii pageant due to the coronvirus. It has not yet been rescheduled.
