It’s been repeated so many times on social media, people started believing it as fact. It is not.
Former Minneapolis Officer Tou Thao who was fired after he stood by and did nothing to stop the death of George Floyd is not related to Kellie Chauvin, the wife of Derek Chauvin.
Chauvin currently faces 3rd degree murder for placing his knee on the neck of Floyd and allegedly causing Floyd’s death.
Many on social media said that Chauvin is Thau’s brother-in-law. A check of public records by AsAmNews found no evidence of that. AsAmNews has never stated the two were related in any way.
Kellie Chauvin is now seeking a divorce.
“Tou Thao is NOT Ms. Chauvin’s brother. I would GREATLY appreciate help putting that rumor to rest,” Amanda Mason-Sekula, her divorce lawyer, said to Snopes. “Her family has been harassed and threatened based on multiple incorrect reports.”
Kellie was born in Laos in 1974 and fled with her family to Thailand in 1977 following the war.
