Melania Trump receives backlash after visiting Korean War Memorial without a mask during COVID-19 pandemic

Melania Trump has been receiving severe backlash on social media for not wearing a face mask at the Korean War Memorial with many senior citizens nearby

The First Lady visited the memorial to honor veterans of the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953, along with President Donald Trump, on Thursday.

According to ABC News, soon after her visit to the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC, Melania Trump posted pictures of her and her husband interacting with elderly veterans and dignitaries.

In a tweet uploaded on Friday, the First Lady wrote, “Yesterday, the President of the United States and I visited the Korean War Veterans Memorial to commemorate 70 years since the start of the Korean War and to pay our respects to the brave Americans who lost their lives fighting for our freedoms.”

Express reported social media users savaged the First Lady for not wearing a face mask during the coronavirus pandemic.

“It would have been more respectful if you’d worn masks,” one critic said on social media, reported Express. Both Trump and the First Lady stood close to elderly veterans and other senior citizens that day, with no mask.

Another user said, “Given the advanced ages of these veterans and your penchant for travel to infected parts of the country. I consider your actions reckless.”

“Hope that person didn’t get infected since he’s likely older and the Trumps refuse to wear a mask,” tweeted another.

Express reported the couple did not shake hands with anyone and allegedly stayed few meters away from the Korean War veterans.

However, netizens were still angered to see the First Lady appear in public without a mask, yet again. According to MEAWW, Melania appeared at many public gatherings without a mask despite releasing numerous PSA videos on her social media that advised followers to follow CDC guidelines and wear face masks.

ABC News reported all three states that hosted the Trumps’ public appearances have had increasing numbers of coronavirus cases. Oklahoma, reported its highest single-day increase in cases over the last week, after Trump held his campaign rally in Tulsa with over 6,000 attendees. The majority of the participants and Trump were seen without a mask.
