Priyanka Chopra has signed a first look deal with Amazon, Variety reported.
The agreement runs two years and follows a similar deal with ABC she signed in 2014 which lead to her prime time series Quantico. That show ran from 2015 to 2018.
“My quest really is to be able to tell female stories, work with creators from around the world and create a cross-pollination of storytelling,” Chopra Jonas said to Variety. “Amazon is such a great partner to do that because their reach and outlook is so global. My Amazon television deal is a global deal, so I can do Hindi language, I can do English language, I can do whatever language I want.”
Amazon hopes Chopra will be a key to expanding its footprint in India where it is expected to reach 17 million subscribers by the end of the year.
According to The Wrap, Chopra already has three projects with Amazon in the works. The first is an international series Citadel with Richard Madden. There will also be connected productions in Mexico, Italy and India. She’ll also star in the film Sheela which is based on the in the 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack in Oregon.
The third project is an unscripted show with her husband Nick Jonas about the Indian pre-wedding tradition called the Sangeet when both sides of the family meet the night before the wedding for song and dance.
