Starbucks employee labels Muslim woman “Isis”

Yet another barista has been called out for writing a racist name on the order of a customer.

This time an employee at a Starbucks inside a Target store in Midway near Minneapolis scribbled “Isis” on the cup of a Muslim customer, the Sahan Journal reported.

The woman reported the incident to the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“The employee claimed that she had not heard her name correctly,” CAIR-MN stated in the press release. “Later, a supervisor told the Muslim customer that ‘mistakes’ sometimes happen with customers’ names, suggesting that this is not the first incident in which a customer felt targeted or harassed by a Target employee’s conduct when receiving their coffee order.”

A news conference has been scheduled today to more fully discuss the incident.

Last year, a Starbucks employee at a store in Philadelphia did the same thing, according to USA Today.

“The customer approached and provided the name ‘Aziz,'” a Starbucks spokesman said. “The barista mistakenly spelled it incorrectly.” He called the incident a “regrettable mistake.”
