Troubles mount for former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin whose charged with second degree murder in the death of George Floyd.

Chauvin along with his wife Kellie now face tax evasion charges, reported NPR.

Washington County prosecutors accuse the couple of underreporting their income by more than $460,000 from 2014 until 2019. Authorities also allege failure to timely file Minnesota individual income tax returns from 2016 to 2019.

Both charges each carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Kellie Chauvin filed for divorce shortly after his arrest in the Floyd case.

From 2016 to 2018, the couple allegedly did not file any state tax returns at all, according to USA Today. Derek is accused of failing to report $95,920 from extra income earned as a security officer. Prosecutors also say Kelly hid $66,472.75 from 340 checks earned from her work as a photographer from 2014-2015.

Heavy reports authorities served a search warrants on Chauvin’s home as well as the workplace of Derek Chauvin’s father who is an accountant. Heavy says authorities recorded a conversation between the couple at Minnesota Correctional Facility at Oak Park Heights where Derek is being held.

Kellie Chauvin is reportedly heard saying ““Yeah well we don’t want to get your dad involved because he will just be mad at me I mean us for not doing them for years.”

“When you fail to fulfill the basic obligation to file and pay taxes, you are taking money from the pockets of citizens of Minnesota. Our office has and will continue to file these charges when presented. Whether you are a prosecutor or police officer, or you are doctor or a realtor, no one is above the law,” Washington County Attorney Pete Orput said in a statement.
