Joe Biden chooses Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate

Joe Biden announced today Senator Kamala Harris of California will be his nominee for Vice President. She is the first Indian American and Black woman to be nominated for Vice President in American history and also the first Asian American.

With 89 days until the 2020 presidential election, Biden announced his decision through text message and email to his campaign supporters, “Joe Biden here. Big news: I’ve chosen Kamala Harris as my running mate. Together, with you, we’re going to beat Trump.”

The former vice president tweeted today, “I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate.

Harris tweeted, calling Biden’s ticket an honor.

While America sits at a boiling point with the coronavirus pandemic, social justice movements, and the 2020 presidential election in November, Biden and Harris shake-up the campaign.

Months before, Biden promised his vice president would be a woman of color– creating buzz and support all over America, especially from minority communities. Both Democrats will play a major role in building a bridge between a racial divide that has existed in American history for years.

Biden and Harris clashed during the Democratic debates in 2019, but both politicians have one top priority– to beat Donald Trump.

Harris, who has been a top contender for Biden’s running mate for the past few months, has recently been a strong advocate for racial justice.

Harris left the presidential race in December, and turned her attention to the Senate. After the wake of protests and justice movements, she continued fights against racism and police brutality. Harris has announced proposals to make lynching a federal crime and marched alongside protesters, helping her gain a lot of support from local communities of color.
