Mulan will be released for free on Disney+ in December

Instead of paying $30 to watch Mulan, fans can now wait until December to stream it for free, according to The DisInsider.

All Disney+ subscribers can stream the live-action remake on Dec. 4– exactly three months after the first release date in three days.

Last month, Disney announced Sept. 4 as the official release date for Mulan along with a $30 fee on Disney+. The film was also set to show in select theaters that are open and not restricted by coronavirus protocols.

Consumers who purchase the movie before Dec. 4 will receive a permanent purchase, not a rental.

The film is one of the biggest headlining movies of the year, and is another film that is bringing Asian representation to the industry. Although Mulan is one of the Disney classics, people are wondering if the film will be a success or not.

According to CNN, Mulan cost $200 million to make, which is one of the reasons why Disney decided to delay the debut several times this year.

When Disney announced the release to be on Disney+, Chapek also mentioned that the service’s subscribers sit at 60.5M, which could mean a greater audience.

“If COVID is causing most movie theaters to remain closed, charging via Disney+ would appear the best way to connect to their audience and make more revenue right now,” Zak Shaikh, vice president of entertainment at Magid, told CNN.

The release on Disney+ is a test for not only how much money the production and company can produce, but how the world will react to a headlining film in a post-coronavirus world.

Now that Mulan will be free for Disney+ subscribers on Dec. 4, the film will most likely see more streaming fans.
