Journalist Connie Chung says she plays by the rules.
“I’m so Asian I never rock the boat,” she says in a new video.
The first Asian American to be appointed a news anchor on a network newscast (NBC Sunrise, 1983), Chung would later co-anchor the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather from 1993 – 1995.
It’s thus a bit surprise that she has gone public with her support for Joe Biden for President of the United States.
“As a news person, I always told you the truth, but now, I’m going to break a rule in journalism. I’m going to tell you what I think.”

She calls Biden a “decent, smart and honest man. I think he really cares about Asians.”
Chung delivers her endorsement in a measured tone. She speaks calmly and deliberately. She begins by saying a few words in Mandarin, apologizing that her Chinese isn’t better. She then conducts the rest of her two minute pitch in English. Her endorsement is clearly directed at Asian American voters.
“People think we should know our place . Right? Well I’ll tell you where our place is. It’s in the voting booth . I urge you to vote for Biden and Harris. Kamala Harris, this is a woman and she’s a minority. She understands.
“We need solutions to the hate and the violence and the racism and sexism and lost jobs. Small Asian businesses are also lost. Fires, floods, health care, schools, education-all of these things need solutions especially, this crazy coronavirus.
“President Trump, shame on you. Shame on you for calling the coronavirus China virus. It costs us so much hateful discrimination.”
Chung expresses surprise that Asians are the least likely to vote. Yet, she says, our vote can make a difference.
“If you haven’t registered to vote, please register. I needed help to get a mail in ballot. I asked for help you ask for help too, OK?”

My opinion of Connie Chung has just hit rock bottom! I have watched her for years and have admired her as a woman/newsperson! No more!!!! I don’t care what party affiliation she is. As far as I’m concerned that is irrelevant. If her major complaint about our President is that he referred to Covid19 as the Chinese virus than what is her problem? Can she not fact/truth? The virus originated in Wuhan, China. In the past we have had the Asian flu, Spanish flu and no telling what else. On a daily basis we refer to the current catastrophic flu as Covid19. That shows no country affiliation. GEEZE Connie!
