Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and running mate Sen. Kamala Harris(D-CA) released their tax return records ahead of the Sept. 29 presidential debate, according to CBS.
Harris released tax records from the last 15 years. It shows that in 2019, Harris and her husband earned $3,018,127 in taxable income and paid $1,185,628 in total taxes. They also owed $432,205 in taxes.
Furthermore, Biden’s tax records show that Biden and his wife collectively made $944,737 in 2019 and paid a federal tax bill of $299,346, according to NPR. The Bidens’ sources of income included University of Pennsylvania, book deals and speaking engagements.
The release of the tax returns pre-debate contrasted with President Donald Trump, who has continuously refused to make public his tax records, citing an ongoing audit.
On Sept. 27, The New York Times published Trump’s tax records, which demonstrated “chronic losses and years of tax avoidance.”

“The tax returns that Mr. Trump has long fought to keep private tell a story fundamentally different from the one he has sold to the American public,” the article states. “Now, with his financial challenges mounting, the records show that he depends more and more on making money from businesses that put him in potential and often direct conflict of interest with his job as president.”
Notably, Trump paid $750 of income taxes in years 2016 and 2017 each, the report states.
Despite the Times’ investigation, Trump continued to refute the report during Tuesday’s debate, The Hill reports. When Biden interrupted his claim that he paid “millions of dollars in taxes,” Trump replied “You’ll see it as soon as it’s finished,” he said.
