Arrest made in San Francisco beatings of two seniors

ABC7 News reports that police in San Francisco have made an arrest in the assaults on two women in their 70’s.

The son of one of the victims posted photos of the incident on social media.

“Last week on September 22nd, my mom was attacked in San Francisco by some random punk,” Thanh Nguyen wrote. He says his brother saw the attacker run down the street and onto a streetcar.

“My brother chased him off the train and down Market street towards Embarcadero. As they were running this scum ran into a group of guys just hanging at the corner; and when he approached, one of the guys sucker punched him almost knocking him out. He was able to pull himself together and run back to my mom as she was getting on the ambulance because he isn’t stupid enough to just get jumped by 5-8 guys,” Nguyen said.

The other incident happened a week earlier on September 15 in the same area just blocks from a police station. According to ABC7,  34-year-old Michael Turner faces charges of suspicion of aggravated assault and elder abuse in the beating of a 78-year-old woman.

He’s also faces charges of battery, a probation violation and elder abuse in the beating of Nguyen’s mom.

Nguyen expressed frustration that police did not return calls requesting information about the ongoing investigation.

“When something like this happens, they should get immediate support from the police and they should get immediate response and support from the DA and I don’t think it happened in this case,” said Supervisor Matt Haney who has met with Thanh.

  2. Will the state of California establish a simiar Asian Hate Crimes Task Force that was done on NYC? Overall, there are more hate crimes cases in California.
