NYPD investigates attack on Asian man as a hate crime

A New York City man was attacked and choked in what police are now investigating as a hate crime, reports Daily News.

According to the New York Post, a 40-year-old man was confronted by the suspect in Chelsea, Manhattan around 1:15 pm after exiting his car. Police say the suspect was yelling racial slurs as he approached the man from behind.

The suspect then struck the man multiple times and choked him before fleeing.

The man sustained face and neck injuries but refused medical attention.

The incident is being investigated by members of the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, who are now searching for the assailant.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned man in his 20s with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie over a brown shirt with a red and yellow image on it, khaki pants, black sneakers, and a face mask under his chin.

Police have also released a surveillance image of the suspect.
