Norah Jones to receive Impact Award

Indian American musician Norah Jones will receive an Impact Award later this month at 2020 Jazz FM Awards in London, according to UDiscoverMusic.

Jones, who rose to fame in early 2000s with her debut studio album Come Away with Me, will be honored at the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho, after the awards were postponed early this month due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A small audience will attend, Yahoo! News reported, in order to follow social distancing guidelines. The ceremony will stream on Jazz FM’s Facebook page alongside special programming.

Jones is the daughter of  Indian musician Ravi Shankar. Her mother Sue Jones, is American, and has English, Scottish, and Scots-Irish/Northern Irish ancestry.

With her 50 million record sales and nine Grammys combined, she brought jazz music to the “greater public,” Jazz FM’s content director Nick Pitts said, according to Yahoo! News.

“Elsewhere, it’s been a tough few months for everyone in our community so a real moment to allow the brilliance to shine through is most welcome,” Pitts said.

Amid the pandemic, the prolific musician also recently announced the release of an expanded version of her recent album, Pick Me Up Off the Floor, which came out earlier this year, Rolling Stone reported.

The expanded album will contain 30 tracks with a previously unreleased song, Light Wind Blowing.

Along with the announcement of the album, Jones released a new video, Hurts to Be Alone, which shows her walking on the beach.

“There are a lot of personal feelings,” Jones told Rolling Stone. “There’s a lot of feelings of things we’re dealing with in society right now. But it’s all very personal because these are things we’re all worried about, that we internalize in our own personal way. I just like how all the songs kind of walk that balance.”
