Asian Am celebrities launch #MyNameIs campaign

Asian American celebrities from Kal Penn to Michelle Kwan to Daniel Dae Kim know a microaggression when they see one.

When they saw Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) mock the name of Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris with his “Kamala-mala-mala-whatever” line, they jumped into action.

“My name is Kalpen,” the star tweeted. “I started going by Kal Penn to help me get a job and am more than happy to give @SenDavidPerdue some tips on finding a new one on his own.”

Penn was responding to a tweet from Harris’ sister, Meena, who had an answer of her own to Perdue.

Daniel Dae Kim promptly joined the #MyNameIs campaign as did Maulik Pancholy of 30 Rock and Weeds.

Pancholy says his name in Hindi means “precious.”

Daniel Dae Hyun Kim is a “great and powerful one.”

Olympic star and skating champ Michelle Kwan is beautiful, strong and smart.
