On Monday morning, a woman was killed by her husband in Lower Manhattan in an apparent murder-suicide, ABC 7 reports.
Xin Yu, 46, waited for his estranged wife Min Ai, 40, outside of her apartment on Greenwich and Morris streets around 9 a.m.. The two argued for several minutes until Yu slashed Ai with a knife. He shot Ai in the head and torso before turning the gun on himself.
Officials say that Ai was planning on getting a divorce. She had been secretly dating a colleague at the bank where she worked for the past year. Her boyfriend contacted police when he hadn’t heard from Ai.
Ai died at the scene, while Yu was rushed to the Lower Manhattan Hospital where he later died.
According to The New York Daily News, a witness removed the gun from Yu’s hands after he shot himself.
“I took the gun from his hand while he was still breathing,” the woman told The News. “I just did it just to be safe. I took it really quick and put it on the ground next to my foot.”
