Pulitzer Prize winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen isn’t backing down from a defeated White supremacist who ran for the U.S. Senate out of Delaware.
Nguyen celebrated Lauren Witzke’s defeat to Democratic incumbent Sen Chris Coons 60% – 38% by tweeting:
The tit for tat between the two began last month when Witzke asserted that most third-world migrants cannot assimilate into civil societies. “Prove me wrong,” she challenged.
Nguyen fired back.
Witzke has linked rapes, murders and heinous crimes to immigration. She has also been connected to the extreme right wing group QAnon and has praised the violent neo-fascist Proud Boys for helping her campaign, according to Media Matters.
Nguyen has clearly gotten under her skin.
“My earlier tweet in response to her denigrating the “third world” garnered around 211K likes so I just wanted to see how she was feeling today,” Nguyen said on his Facebook page.
“She’s still spewing racist garbage. The GOP tolerates this and some in the GOP embrace it. If you’re an immigrant or refugee who’s voted for the GOP, just remember this is what a significant part of that party thinks of you.
Witzke then made a veiled threat about President Trump revoking Nguyen’s refugee status, sending him “back to the third world where you belong” and calling him “awfully opinionated for someone who isn’t even allowed to vote.”
Nguyen chuckled, proudly stating “you’ll have to report me for voting. Yes, I’m very opinionated and I enjoy our rights.”

Witzke has since blocked Nguyen from her account.
