Newscaster feels backlash for wearing Wuhan bat costume

A family Halloween photo depicting a newscaster and her husband wearing a costume with the captions “Wuhan Bats” and “Bats” with the Chinese Yuan symbol has caused an uproar in Austrialia, reports the Huffington Post.

Caroline Marcus of Skynews posted the photo on her Instagram account before turning her account private.

“Because what could be more terrifying in 2020 than a couple of Wuhan street vendors hawking one very edible bat,” she wrote in the caption.

Marcus’ baby is also depicted in the photo.

According to the Mirror, one social media follower responded “This is really disturbing. I hope you’ll take a step back and consider how offensive this might be to a group of people, particular during this time when violence is being perpetrated against people of Asian backgrounds because of views like this.”

“Can’t stop thinking about Caroline Marcus and her horrible, racist Halloween costume that she roped her infant kids into,” The Sun reported, another wrote.

As with anything on the internet, there were also those who found the posts funny and who defended Marcus and her family.

Marcus has yet to comment on the uproar.
