Florida Store Owner Killed, Co-Owner Injured in Shooting

On Monday night, a woman was shot and killed and a man critically injured in Mount Dora, Florida during an apparent armed robbery, WKMG-TV reports.

Khiem Ba Trinh, 56, who goes by Tony, and Minh Nguyen (Tina), 47, are the owners of a convenience store called T&N Market. On Monday night they were closing up the store when a man dressed in all black pulled a gun on Trinh and forced him back into the store, according to WESH 2. Police found the pair inside the store suffering from gun shot wounds.

Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene and Trinh was airlifted to Central Florida Regional Hospital.

Early Tuesday morning, community members brought flowers to set outside the store. They say Trinh and Nguyen were an integral part of the Mount Dora community.

“When someone dies in the community, they come to the funeral, they donate,” Willie Woods said of Trinh and Nguyen in an interview with WKMG-TV.

Customers say that the pair were married and had children, although this had not yet been confirmed by family members.

“It’s nothing you wanted out that store they wouldn’t give you. If you didn’t have any money, they still gave it to you,” Lorraine Wright told WKMG-TV.

The owner’s son came to join community members as he mourned, according to WKMG-TV.

Customers released balloons into the sky and held a candlelight vigil for the owners at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.

“They would anything for you. They did so much for this community,” Deborah Devlin told WESH 2. “They were good people, good people and this is heartbreaking. This is heartbreaking. It will never be the same, it will never be the same.”

Police have described the suspect as a man with a skinny build. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Mount Dora police or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
