Andrew Yang dropping hints he’ll run for mayor of NYC

Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang is testing the waters for a possible bid for mayor of New York City, reports Politico.

He’s reportedly reaching out to political leaders to measure their support.

“It sounds like Andrew Yang is running for mayor and seems excited about his path to win,” one person who spoke to Yang said to Politico.

The NY Times reports Yang is already telling city leaders he intends to join the crowded race for Mayor which is set for June 2021. The paper says he’s already met with New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and is scheduled to meet with Rev Al Sharpton next week.

Yang is currently in Georgia to support the Democrats in the Senate runoff that could flip the Senate from red to blue.

He refused to confirm the Times story.

“I’m thrilled that people seem excited about my doing what I can to help, but no, right now I’m focused on these Senate races in Georgia,” he said to The Times.

The entrepreneur gained traction in his presidential bid with his universal income proposal that would give $1000 a month to every adult in the country.

He launched a smaller version of that proposal in Hudson, NY earlier this year.

Yang grew up in upstate New York and has spent considerable time in Manhattan.
