Domee Shi, the creator and director of animated Pixar short Bao, will be directing a feature-length film for Pixar, MXDWN reports.
Disney announced that Shi will be directing the animated film Turning Red. The film tells the story of a young teenager named Mei, who turns into a red panda whenever she gets too excited, according to Screen Rant.
Shi became the first female director of a Pixar short with her work on Bao. Pixar has teamed up with Shi again to tell Asian American stories.
Disney and Shi posted announced the new film on social media. Their announcements also featured artwork from the film.
Turning Red is expected to hit theaters on March 11, 2022.
