Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angel’s, is asking for the public help in apprehending a marauding group of six (3 men, 3 women) who attacked a 32-year-old Asian Woman this month.
They pummeled her for not wearing a mask & spewed anti Asian remarks. “She’s Chinese”, “She’s got the coronavirus,” they said, according to police reports.
They also tried to take her cellphone, but were unsuccessful.
The incident happened on Dec 17th around 1:45 PM on the “A” train in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village in the subway station.
Sliwa said their group received a tip that a group with a similar description was seen in the Chinatown vicinity.
There are eight subway routes that transverse Chinatown making a easy escape route after any future attacks. The Guardian Angels are placing wanted posters/flyers to alert the riding public & in Chinatown stations to notify them so that they plot concentration of their patrols.
Anyone who sees them is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8477(TIPS)
It should be noted that there were three Asian Americans on patrol with them Saturday. At least two were recruited earlier this year when anti-Asian attacks started as early as Lunar New Year in February.
One lives in Chinatown and two of them (Sara Chin & Christine Wii) have participated in the Chinatown Neighborhood Watch organized by Karlin Chan a local activist, wall mural visionary & resident.
