AAPI lawmakers flee for safety. Rep Kim returns for cleanup

The mob that overtook the Capitol shook up many lawmakers, including Rep Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Rep Andy Kim (D-NJ).

“I love this building, tonight more than ever,” Kim wrote on Twitter. Not only did he return to the chamber to complete the ceremonial electoral count, he stuck around to help with the clean up.

The Daily Mail posted numerous photos of Kim, down on the ground and still wearing his suit, helping to pick up the glass and debris scattered across the floor of the rotunda. He joined ATF Police Officers who also assisted in the clean up.

A reporter from WUSA also posted numerous photos on social media.

The clean up took place hours after the mob managed to bypass security and storm the Capitol Building.

“It was a very scary moment,”  Rep Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) told the Seattle Times. “We were there when shots began to be fired into the chamber, we saw, from where I was sitting, I could see Capitol Police with their guns drawn,” Jayapal said.

Jayapal watched from the gallery above the House floore when the mob entered.

She immediately ducked behind the railing, seeking some sort of safety. The violence broke out shortly after President Trump encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol building.

“We’re going to walk down there, and I’ll be there with you, we’re going to walk down … to the Capitol and we are going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women,” Trump told the crowd. “And we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them. Because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong,” reported the Palm Beach Post.

  1. What a humble and wonderful man Rep. Kim is. Of course this is the Asian collective spirit. We look around and help where help is needed…
