Bling Empire called racist by some. Others can’t wait

Bling Empire debuts tomorrow on Netflix. The reality show features a predominantly all Asian American cast of rich people. It’s the latest attempt to cash in on the success of Crazy Rich Asians, but so far reaction on social media has been mixed.

AsAmNews reached out to Netflix a week ago requesting cast interviews and a preview, but unlike other streaming services which has been receptive to such requests, Netflix failed to come through.

There may be a reason. Initial reaction from fans who have seen the trailer has been somewhat negative, while others expressed anticipation.

Others, however, expressed excitement about seeing more Asian American representation on television and are anxious to give the show a try.

Bling Empire follows a group of friends in Los Angeles. As you might expect, its filled with glitz, glamor and conflict-because you can’t have all that money and not be ticked off at someone.

As Netflix says “They’re just like your friends… only so much richer and so much more dramatic.”
