Biden Picks AAPI Special Agent to Lead Security Detail

President Joe Biden’s Asian American secret service agent, David Cho, is slowly becoming a viral sensation online after being pictured at today’s inauguration. Cho will be the agent in charge of Biden’s security detail, The Washington Post reports.

When photos of Cho people began circulating online, people began trying to figure out who he was the Asian man standing behind Biden was.

Other Twitter users then confirmed that Cho was the lead agent in Biden’s security detail.

Several of the agents in Biden’s detail are new, but Cho also served under former President Donald Trump. While serving on Trump’s detail, Cho worked his way up to second-in-command of the protective detail, according to The Washington Post. He was awarded Department of Homeland Security’s gold medal for exceptional service in 2019 for his work negotiating appropriate security for former President Trump on his visit to North Korea.

According to several Asian American reporters, Cho will be the first Asian American to head up a Presidential security detail.

  1. Kudos to both President Biden & David Cho. As an emergency physician and former reserve law enforcement officer, I’ve taught for the FBI, Sheriff’s department and fish & game. I’m proud to see an Asian American face in the Secret Service. Dr. Wes Young, Honolulu.
