Veteran reporter Katherine Creag, known for her work on NBC 4 New York’s morning newscast “Today in New York,” passed away suddenly Wednesday, NBC 4 New York reports.

Creag was not ill in the days leading up to her death and even work on Wednesday morning, New York Daily News reports.

Creag graduated from NYU in 1996 and worked at FOX for five years before joining NBC. She joined WNBC in 2011 and spent the last decade covering a wide range of issues in the greater New York area.

Her work earned her several Emmy, Edward R. Murrow and Associated Press awards.

“For ten years Kat was one of our cornerstones, always willing to help in any situation, whether it was a colleague in need or a shift that needed to be covered. She was thoughtful, funny and relentless. And even on the toughest days she was a bright light, quick with a kind word and a smile,” WNBC’s vice president of news, Amy Morris, said in an email to the staff, according to NBC 4 New York.

Colleagues, community members and loved ones took to social media this morning to remember Creag. She was known for her infectious smile, boundless energy and passion for Filipino food.

Creag is survived by her three children (a son and two daughters) and her husband of 14 years Bill Gafner. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.

If you would like to leave condolences for Katherine Creag’s family, you can fill out a form at the bottom of NBC 4 New York’s article.
