Asians need not apply. Firm advertises for non-Asian applicants

A tech firm this week pulled an ad on LinkedIn requiring job applicants be non-Asian, reports ABC7.

Stephen Lin contacted the news station after his girlfriend pointed it out.

“My girlfriend found it and was so shocked and she sent it to me. I definitely wasn’t going to let it go unnoticed, so I decide I would post it on LinkedIn more as an effort to increase awareness both in the professional world and to get eyes from the company itself and from LinkedIn,” he said.

According to the Mercury News, Aptude is a multi-national company with offices in Silicon Valley, Chicago, Atlanta, Mexico, India and Malaysia.

“Our investigation revealed that misunderstood communication was posted by an individual with no conceivable discriminatory intent,” the company said in a statement.  We deeply regret this occurrence, and we are especially saddened by the pain it caused and by the resulting misperception of our values.”

SF Gate points out that Aptude does not explain the “misunderstood communication” in its statement.

LinkedIn has also taken down the ad.

  1. This is the extent of Asian action and outrage. A few little news articles with zero action beyond shock and shrug of shoulders. If any other ethic group were targeted, there would be calls for boycotts of Aptude and its clients. Crazy?
