Bruno Mars will be collaborating with French heritage brand Lacoste, known for tennis and golf sportswear alongside its green crocodile log, for the first fashion line of his career, FashionUnited reports. The line is named “Lacoste x Ricky Regal” after Mars’s “fashion alter ego,” Ricky Regal.
Lacoste has described the line as “everyday sports luxury” that was inspired by a “lust for life and an entrepreneurial Mida touch” in a press release. The collection will blend Mars’s “enigmatic personality and distinct style” with Lacoste’s own “blend of sport and luxury,” according to FashionUnited.
“Lacoste x Ricky Regal” is only the second time Lacoste will be collaborating with a non-athlete. The first time was its 2019 collection “Lacoste x GOLF le FLEUR” in collaboration with rapper and songwriter Tyler the Creator.
Mars’ line consists of 25 pieces noted for their colorful, graphic patterns, according to Women’s Wear Daily. They range in cost from $100 to $200, and all of them received personal attention from Mars, who was given “free reign to his imagination.”
This creative freedom appealed greatly to Mars.
“I’ve been very fortunate to have been asked to do collaborations in the past, but it always came with guidelines,” Mars said in a statement according to FashionUnited. “Lacoste was the first and only brand that said ‘Bruno you can do whatever you want.’ The respect of such creative freedom coming from a heritage fashion house was an honour.”
The collection will drop on Friday, March 5, Women’s Wear Daily reports. It will only be available for two weeks at the most, though Lacoste expects it to sell out before the end of that time frame.
Earlier this week, Mars also announced a new album, Silk Sonic, which is also slated for release on March 5. Silk Sonic will be a collaboration between Mars and rapper Anderson Park.
