Kim’s Convenience cancelled after 5 seasons

It’s closing time for Kim’s Convenience.

The popular show about a Korean Canadian family that owned a grocery store announced it would not be returning for a sixth season despite previously being renewed, reported TV Line.

Co-creators Ins Choi and Kevin White decided they would move on to other projects after the conclusion of season 5.

“Given their departure from the series, we have come to the difficult conclusion that we cannot deliver another season with the same heart and quality that has made the show so special,” the show announced on Instagram.

Kim’s Convenience debuted on CBC in Canada in 2016 and can now also be seen on Netflix. Fans and critics praised the award-winning program as an authentic look at a Korean family.

Simu Liu who played Jung on the broken described himself as “heartbroken.”

“I feel like my journey with Jung was cut short. I feel like you, the fans, deserved better,” he said on Twitter.

Jean Yoon who played Umma expressed thanks and gratitude to the fans, cast and crew.

Andrew Phung, aka Kimchee Han, called the moment bittersweet.

The show also starred Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Andrea Bang and Nicole Power.
