Anti-hate group donates 200 personal safety alarms to seniors

Nearly 200 seniors in New York Chinatown received free personal safety alarms Sunday.

The group Safe from Hate donated the alarms and another group, Concerned Asian American Citizens of New York City, took care of the distribution.

Officers of the New York Police Department Chinatown 5th Precinct volunteered to help with the giveaway.

Both CAACNYC and Safe from Hate also used the opportunity to remember Corky Lee, a tireless Asian American photographer who documenting the Asian American experience for 50 years. Thee photojournalist gave countless hours to Asian American groups, including AsAmNews, sharing his talents. Lee earlier this year died of COVID-19 at the age of 73.

One senior who received an alarm said she got hit in the head just a few months ago by a stranger.

Another said she wanted one for her husband who worked late at night.

All were extremely thankful.

  1. I question why I see photos of volunteers passing out only 200 personal safety alarms to Chinese American Seniors in Chinatown. These wonderful volunteers and their efforts make them”Truly the Very Best”!

The Chinese Americans that are featured in the “Committee of 100” have remained so silent and the vast majority of them have not been heard from individually or as a group. This group is comprised of many of the most prominent Asian Americans in New York City and the world. They represent very powerful government organizations and companies in New York City and the world. They have millions if not billions of dollars under their control. They should direct their attention to turn the tide of violence that is surging throughout the Chinese and Asian American communities.
