While the overall box office is still lagging in comparison to pre-COVID-19 showings, the new Disney movie Raya and the Last Dragon starring Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina, has managed to keep the #1 spot.
Edging out Warner Brother’s Tom and Jerry by $1.4 million dollars in the second weekend, even with some theaters boycotting the release, the star-studded film has still managed to fair at least decently among the COVID-19 releases.
Currently for all U.S. domestic showings in 2021, the film sits at the #4 spot right behind Wonder Woman 1984 by around $3 million.
For worldwide theatrical releases in 2021, Raya and the Last Dragon currently sits in the #8 spot with around $52 million in ticket sales.
Total sales for the film however are incomplete as Disney has not shared the numbers for Raya and the Last Dragon for the Disney+ release of the movie where families and friends can order the movie for $30 (on top of their subscription fee).
In related news, Eddie Huang’s coming-of-age story Boogie, took the 4th spot with a respectable $730,000 in ticket sales in its second weekend.
