Honoring the Victims of the Georgia Spa Shootings

Robert Long, the suspect in the Georgia Spa shootings, continues to be the focus of media coverage, but many are calling for people to honor the victims of the shootings.

Of the eight people killed, six victims have been identified. Officials have identified the victims of the Cherokee County shooting as Delaina Yaun, 33, of Acworth; Paul Andre Michels, 54, of Atlanta; Xiaojie Tan, 49, of Kennesaw; and Daoyou Feng, 44, according to CNN.

The Korean Times Atlanta has reported that two of Golden Spa employees killed were Julie Park, in her 70s, and Hyun-Jeong Park Grant, a woman in her 50s, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Police have confirmed that six of the victims were Asian women according to CNN. South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that four of the women were of Korean descent, according to The Los Angeles Times.

A GoFundMe Page has been set up for Delaina Yaun, who was a loving wife and mother of two children. There is also a GoFundMe Page for the lone surviving victim Elcias Hernandez-Ortiz. According to his wife Flora, Hernandez-Ortiz was shot in the forehead and a bullet traveled into his lungs and stomach.

Hernandez-Ortiz, who is a father to a 9-year-old girl, is still recovering in the intensive care unit.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta, Asian American Advocacy Fund, 9to5 and Korean American Coalition Metro Atlanta are organizing to gather funds for the victims’ families, according to CNN.

Asian Americans on Twitter are asking for people to continue to say the names of the victims and learn their stories as more information is appropriately released.
